TGIM

My friend Marnie gave us a kiddie pool a couple of weeks ago and this was our first go at it. Sophia LOVED it and rung around the rosie many a time. She loved falling down in the water and gasping when it reached her chest... (the hose water was a teenie bit cold.) It was the perfect afternoon activity for our sunny days... and gave me some peace of mind for the upcoming summer heat. Thanks Marnie!

This weekend was a busy one... Ross had a flag football game on Saturday morning that Sophia and I watched.... and by watched I mean went down the slide at the adjacent park about a hundred times during the football game. "Weeeeeee!". After the game, we went for bagels with good friends John and Marnie, (added that in because it makes me sound like a leisurly out-and-about morning mom, that doesn't speed home in time for naptime... which I'm not.) Later, I went to a bridal shower, child free. (!!!!!) And that night, Ross' boss had a barbecue at his house for a bunch of the Merrill families. Besided the fact that it was based around a pool so either Ross or I had to attempt to eat a burger with one hand while balancing Sophia on the rock she demanded standing on right next to the pool with the other, it was fun. Pools make me very nervous. When can you teach these little ones to swim? Any pointers, mommies?

(This is a picture of the park by Ross' football game... didn't get a great one of her, but I love park pictures, something to do with all of the colorful equipment--and she just looks like such a big kid running around a playground in tennis shoes and jeans... so I threw it in.)

Sunday was the usual, a mia-maid lesson for church to prepare the morning of (horrible problem of mine... I know that's not called magnifying), Ross had to attend another ward for the Stake YM presidency, and then we both got to speak at a youth fireside that night. The topic was mission prep. The days leading up were a little stressful (which is how it goes for me). The outcome was great. Glad for the opportunity... and glad it's over.

Now it's monday and here we go... another week. Sigh. Life's good.

Sounds fun Lillie! If I were you I'd get Sophia in swim lessons asap....I know how it is living in the HEAT and kids always wanting to be in the water. So scary! I've been lucky, so far 3 out of 4 have been safe, good swimmers by 2 yrs We'll see about Cam this summer :)

I always love looking at your blogs Lillie! I too teach the Mia Maids in our ward! Quite the task with Austin running around but all the girls are very willing to help out.

I mean...just all over the place...no "real" walking.

Lillie... did you serve a mission? Ok, as far as pools go they totally scare me too. Especially with wild little girls like Sophia and my Macey are. (when you said she insisted on balancing on a rock right by the pool I could totally relate...) I am so nervous when we are around water! My other kids didn't take lessons till 3 or 4 years but I might start Macey earlier just cause she's more daring and thinks she can swim. Sophia looks darling in her new little pool!

Well, it's 1am New York time but my clock is still registering 10pm Vegas time so I'm doing a little bit of work and decided to check your blog!

I'm not a mom yet, but my mom put me in swim lessons at 6 months. (my older sister started Abbie at 6 months, too). I could get myself out of the water by 18 months or so. While we were still watched very closely around water, it was reassuring that I somewhat knew what to do if I fell in. I too would start her right away. She'd love it!

How old is Sophia now? 19 months? I would maybe think about doing the mommy and me classes. You could get tan so it's like a double plus, right?

Was it a dream of mine or did you say Marnie was pregnant. Tell me I'm not dreaming of random friends of my long distance, blogger friend.

I really hope that you frame one of those pictures of Sophia. The colors with her toddler tummy is too much for me to handle. I almost want to frame it in my house.

cute as always! are there good pools nearby that you would like to frequent?
maybe my kid is just average, but we did a sort of mommy and me class last spring (so he was exactly sophia's age) and although it was lots of FUN splashing around, I definitely wouldn't say he "learned how to swim" because of swim lessons at that age. maybe just to not be afraid of the water, which to me meant having to be THAT much more careful, because he'd want to just dive right in. my best advice would be an inner tube or life jacket. boring but safe.

oh, and look for pools that have a walk in side..1 ft is perfect for little ones, and you can sit IN the water and not feel like you're just out on the deck for all to see.

probably lame advice, but at least i'm honest. :)

Ok, I could eat up that little lavendar polka dot. Look at her! The bubbles, the little tie-up sides, the shades... she's 10 x's more ready for summer that I am.

Lil, missed you SO much this weekend, but really just put in a little legwork and planning so that your visit will be even BETTER in June/July. Yesssss...

Are you hiding from the heat so far?

Lillie, I swear everytime I check your blog you have like 3 new posts!! I love it!! I need to check it more, I used to check it everyday, if not twice a day!! I decided I go through phases where all I do is blog/email, and then I'm just bored of the computer for a little while! But look what I miss out on....Sophia in her cute little striped bottoms and topless(where did you get those by the way?) And cute little Heath and all the bubbles and balloons! I love it...and I wish I could have been a fly on the wall during your talks. You have ALWAYS been a super great speaker, and I love what you have to say about everything. I'm sorry about your D.C. trip! What happened? I too, was looking forward to all of the fun pictures of you girls with monumental history behind you. That will be fun for you to get away in the summer though!!

Hi, I'm Missy's sis. Just thought I'd pop in to say that I've started teaching the girls to swim between 18 months and 2 years. I think Sophia would pick it up really quick if you started her right now. She doesn't need to be swimming the strokes or anything. Just to learn water safety like getting to the side or turning over on her back to float if she ever does fall in.

Lillie, I hate to swim and am quite bad at it. I would definetly start her ASAP so she will be a swimmer chic, like Missy. Plus you will meet new moms to chat with.
