Finn's Nursery

I kept putting off blogging this... because of course I could add more. And I kept thinking I might get around to it. But I probably won't-- for a while at least. Obviously the room doesn't need two chairs, but I couldn't bare to get rid of the comfy one (with the sloppy slip cover) with nursing and all. Especially because when I sat in the fake eames rocker with my NEGATIVE stomach muscles I felt like I'd fall straight back. But it's cute, right? :) If/when I move that, I think the room could use a narrow book shelf of some sort for some cute (dare I say) knick knacks? and books etc... in that corner. I still have the ikea rocking moose I plan on painting white, and tried to order this moroccan pouf from amazon but the vendor never shipped it. Bummer. Still gonna get my hands on one.

But this is Finn's nursery--- I wanted it to be simple and clean and light with lots of natural textures. I love it.

This feels presumptuous to post my purchases like everyone would want to know. But when I'm getting ideas from other blogs, I LOVE when they post the products. So a quick run down:

crib- amazon
fabric for bedding from premier fabric- made by my friend Brooke's mom
bamboo shade- overstock
modern rocker- I got it from Caitlyn Creer when she was selling them on her blog, but they have them on overstock.
sheepskin rug- ikea
light fixture- ikea
dresser- ikea
drawer pulls- anthropologie sale
mirror- an old Homegoods purchase that had been booted out of all of it's spots in my house
boy walking lion print- Sarah Jane Studios on etsy-- I love her darling prints.
Good Morning Sunshine print-- This vintage poster website
All frames- ikea
maps- a random $20 Costco purchase last year-- It came with two maps and I cut one large map in half and framed it here.
paint colors- classic gray by benjamin moore all over-- the darker gray stripes?-- I can't remember! It's a martha color... I wanted to say Bedmoor gray or something... but I think I made that up because it sounds like Benjamin Moore... hmmm.. I'll remember tonight when I'm going to sleep.

The fabric arrived!

So the plan is, chevron for front of bumper, white for back, orange for piping and ties, and maybe a trim on the bottom of a flat white bedskirt. I'm having my friend Brooke's mom sew it and I'm SO excited. Wish me luck!

A sneak peak

I really did the stripes. Here's proof. Have you heard of frog tape? I've never tried stripes without it. But apparently it's a must--- And this job was so much easier than I thought it'd be. When I actually decided to go for it, I think it took a total of like 1.5-2 hours, from measuring and marking, to ripping off the tape and cleaning up. Of course I only did ONE wall (a whole wall though... not just the little corner you see... just thought I'd better clarify)--- and Ross had already painted the room the light gray. I still can't make up my mind on pretty much ANYTHING else... but I love the paint job. Hooray! One thing down.

Skip if you're sick and tired of my fickle nursery thoughts...

Ok--- I've narrowed it down to these two for the baby's room. If only all of that green bedding were included. ;) I think I'm set on one of these--- but then I find this one below, the Spot On Square Eicho, Eco Friendly crib at Amazon for $595, which is SO much more than I've ever considered spending, but of course cheaper than some of the lovely Oeuf cribs I've gotten used to drooling over.... judgement..... so...... clouded......
and wonder if in the LONG run, the price tag could be worth it's lovely aesthetic. Probably not.
Right?

So of the first two---- what's your vote? I like the leg shape and price on the Walmart one--- but is it too "amber"? I think I prefer the espresso of the Amazon one. But is that even worth the extra 79 bucks? I've painted his walls a light gray--- that's all I've committed to so far... I know... I'm going to run out of time and steam and end up with nothing. Here's my latest inspiration boards.

Still cheating and using the oeuf crib because the bedding in the other photos will really throw off the vibe. :) The blue and white fabric would be for the bumper... still debating where to put my new zebra hide. I LOVE it- and want it to find the best home. :)

Or this one with the light coral striped rug from the American home Rug Company.

If I still have time after I rip myself away from this blasted computer--- I planned on starting some stripes on one wall in his room today.... after falling in love with this room.

Wish me luck---

And give me your vote--- I've got to make another decision or two here soon if I'm ever going to finish.

One for the girls, one for the boy

Filling my brain with all sorts of ideas for the shared "big girl room" coming up. If only I didn't love like a billion different styles. Did you see this cute one from the new Lonny? I did Sophia's nursery in orange and pink forever ago, so I thought I was over that--- but I'm loving it here.

But on a completely different track, this is a super simple version of something I made after I fell in love with the turquoise wall room in this post. I've got two OLD headboards I bought for 5 bucks each when Ross and I FIRST got married... at a garage sale. They've been sitting in our backyard for um--- over 2 years... and I keep meaning to have Ross throw them away. But now I'm thinking... maybe I'll paint 'em? They don't look quite like the one's above-- just a fill-in shape. But I did already get the rug and shams on sale at Anthro.... knowing I could return them if I change my mind (which I do often) since we have one in town now!!!! That cute print is somewhere on etsy. I think it's the same girl who does the boy walking the lion. I love her stuff.

Have I blogged this one yet? I love this pretty natural color palette. I did buy a big map from costco like a year ago that's still rolled up and tucked away.... Now if only that crib were not like a billion dollars. I'm going to need to make some decisions soon---- I feel like the weekends between now and the baby are going to fly by with all of the bustle. And Ross said if I got the paint, he'd paint the baby's room and the girl's room on a Saturday....

But at my rate, I'll lose steam and the little guy will just sleep in Mila's nursery and Mila will sleep on Sophia's floor.

Why am I so bad at making decisions?!

Can you tell I'm nesting? All I want to do is reorganize and decorate this place. Everything else just keeps getting in the way. Sheesh.

Some of my favorite boy room inspiration

I like a lot of these elements.... but it's a bummer--- none of these are even perfect to me. I know I like feminine decor, since there are like a BILLION perfect girl rooms to me. I really don't want him to have a girly nursery... and Joe, I know you won't let it go unnoticed when you come for his birth, now that you've made it clear they're ALL girly!

Maybe I'll just pretend I don't know what I'm having and justify a "neutral" nursery---- I'm just not feeling lots of dark wood and sports.

Can't I just avoid pink and call it good?

This boy stuff is hard!

Opinions?

I know they all look almost the same. But humor me.

So the first nursery idea...that I posted a few weeks ago, is it too girly? Is the coral rug girly? If so, not sure if some of these are better or worse, but here are a couple of other variations. Mostly just the rug changes... but I think it's sort of a prominent thing. What's your favorite!?

Oh and other changes? This is a picture of the oeuf crib which is WAY out of my price range, but I'm thinking this crib from Walmart might work... (thank you anonymous commenter that pointed me in that direction!) It's not perfect, the bottom might be a little too cherry.... but I figure, worse case, I can paint it. I'd have used it in the idea board, but every photo of it online comes with that bedding. No thanks.

Other additions?

rocking moose (expensive one in idea board, here's the cheap one I'd buy from ikea and paint)

Dreaming up baby rooms...

I've never REALLY done a nursery that I love. Sophia's was just so long ago, my tastes changed so quickly, and then Mila was born right before a move, so we didn't do much and she shared the guest room. Then there was just too much new house, too little money--- I was sworn to frugality. So we went super basic in this house too. I REALLY want to do something super cute for "the boy."

If only my taste didn't change so fast and I'd bought a crib I LOVED the first time around! Sophia's crib was dark, and I really wanted white for Mila, so I bought her that cheap ikea crib... which I've been thinking I would reuse. Until I thought about it for two seconds one day and realized it's totally curvy and feminine. Shoot. So I'll need aNOTHER crib!?

And as much as I'd love this crib, or something like it..... I'll probably be getting this crib. Since it's like 99 bucks. It seems SO silly to buy two cheap ikea cribs two babies in a row..... any suggestions? I can't get away with those curves for a boy can I? Am I already pushing it with all of the peaceful tones?

Are you into this stuff? If so, here's some links.

-The place on etsy where you can pay someone who KNOWS how to sew, to make one for you.
- basket-- but they have a cute one at Target right now for 39 that would get the job done.
- pouf (the one thing I LOVE but might not be able to justify, since it's NOT cheap. But there are some cheaper options like this one, or this one, or this one.)
- bamboo shade-- I know they have ones I like at Target.

Oh and my painted on "knobs" on the dresser are because I got these cute bamboo-colored drawer knobs on sale at anthropologie. Did I mention one just opened here in the desert?!

Slugs and Snails

I want this vignette in my baby's room. Maybe I'll just print it out and frame it since I'll never find a piece of furniture like that…. without taking out some equity in our ho----- … oh wait… what's that?…

I've been thinking a lot about this boy thing.

Do I have to learn to cut hair? Do I have to pay someone to cut his hair? Don't you have to give boys haircuts??? how often? How do you know what…. shape?

Do I have to save extra time before church to put on real socks and shoes instead of "sunday flip-flops"? … real shoes stress me out.

Do I have to tuck in his shirt? Put on a tie? Real or fake? I think church with a boy is stressing me out. Maybe I'll make that Ross' territory.

And should I even mention all of the different bits and pieces? I'm a bit nervous for all of that. I feel like I'll need to learn diapers all over again. And the--- ahem--- … surgery… early on…. I'm already anxious. I've heard stories.

But guess what? I was laying in bed a couple of nights ago and I felt---- the most distinct little kick. I know I've been feeling little bits of movement over the last 2 weeks or so, the kind you wouldn't recognize during your first pregnancy, and the kind the doctor disregards as…. (gas)… but you know better.

But THIS time… well this time, I felt that little kick… and quickly put my hand in place, and I felt that little kick again--- even on the OUTSIDE.

It's official-

And there are few things I love more in life than feeling my babies move. Those little flutters that make it all real--- like he's reminding you that he's in there getting to know you're voice and your heart beat and your vibe. It almost makes up for all of that garbage that comes with pregnancy. (and by garbage, I mean back-fat.)

I went to sleep with my hand on my belly and a smile on my face…. and I really did dream of my baby boy all night long.

I'm in love. Socks, shoes, bad hair cuts and all.

But do I have to give in to star wars?
