Palm Springs Street Fair

Meet Brooke and Tyson. They live right behind us-- like close enough that we can throw butter and powdered sugar and other unbreakables over the wall when needed. We're trying to figure out a way to build a gate. It's wonderful... one of the best things about this neighborhood. I never knew how important neighbors could be. Oh and did I mention she bakes. Like all the time. She bakes from home for a restaurant in Palm Springs and when she has to try out a new recipe? Well we benefit, (or my waste line suffers, however you want to look at it.)

They have a little Sawyer too, he must have been running around with my girls.

And this is-- listen close-- Brooke's cousin Sarah, who is married to Tyson (above)'s brother Colby. Sarah also worked with Ross at Merrill Lynch and they brought her with them to Morgan Stanley. Oh and I also knew her for a stint at BYU when we worked together with Brooke.

And this is Nate and Syd. Syd who grew up near Brooke in Orange County and Nate who grew up out here by Tyson.. and who's brother, Ben I knew at BYU Hawaii ten years ago. I love small worlds.

We've lived here for like 6 years now and been to the weekly Palm Springs Street fair all of two times. Including last night. And it was so fun... we were so confused at why we don't do it more often. Live music, all sorts of must-haves like glass humming-birds and woven dream-catchers (seriously.... who's keeping these people in business?), and all the delicious/trashy fair food you could want. We pretty much walked the length of the fair just to take note of every option there so we could make an educated decision on our junk-food of choice. We made the mistake of eating dinner before... which is why I had so much time to catch Sarah and Colby, and Brooke and Tyson eating their Falafal (no idea how to spell that). Eventually, we decided on a waffle/icecream sandwich, some tart yogurt (not really fair food but right there where it was happening), and some girl-scout cookies (we couldn't pass them up- we thought we'd missed our chance this season!)

Visit us will ya? There was funnel cake. And crepes-- savory and sweet. And Kettle Corn--- oh that smell might be one of my favorites. There were smores on sticks. And homemade toffee- did I mention funnel cake? I promise we'll take you... any takers?

Great way to break down the friendships! We want to go every week now. Thursdays with no cooking dinner...my dream! Just Falafels and crepes and funnel cakes.

Small world indeed. I love the way cities find people and bring them together.
Yes, please, on the fair invitation. I love fairs - street, state or otherwise, and am determined to make the Texas State Fair one day. Biggest state fair in the world, they say...want to come?

Wait, so this street fair is EVERY WEEK? That sounds like so much fun. Love those little businesses (even if I would never buy something from them:)

How fun! I've been to Palm Springs so many times, but I don't think we've ever been to the Street Fair. Great pictures! Fun to see pics of Nate and Sid too.

So we were the first back in the summer? Or did that count. We didn't really buy anything. We'll have to go and eat the carny food next time we're there.

When you said meet Brooke and Tyson, it took me a minute to figure out that you were talking about the picture below and not the first picture. I thought HMM, what an interesting couple. How much of an age difference is there between them? Oh, I am retarded. I got it now.
I miss you guys, let me know the next time you make it up this way...

Oh my goodness, that food looks SO GOOD!! I feel like I always have so much to comment on your blog because I always have like 5 posts to catch up on!! I'm so with ya on the 'feeling down' on things lately, and then I try to stay in my "Erin bubble", with my kids and hubby and solid life and try to not let the crazy world affect me. But it sometimes does. And And you completely said it perfectly about 'growing up' and when did we suddenly become so adult' like? It made me laugh because sometimes I feel like "I" missed the boat on some key things like history and gospel doctrine and I question my ability to teach my kids everything I know?! It's overwhelming! You always blog about exactly what we're all thinking or going through, that's one of your best qualities is your ability to express yourself. I love you Lillie, and seriously, I'm so grateful for your friendship. I have the cutest picture of us when we were like 8, and I swear it keeps on surfacing. I had it kept in a box of pictures, but it will just show up in random places...I'll have to scan it and email it to you! It's precious! And your girls?! They are so beautiful. Mila is looking so big to me lately.
