Music

So if anyone hasn't noticed, yes, I have been stealing every new, good, commercial song for my blog. I can't help myself. Now whenever a good song comes on a commercial, Ross automatically rewinds it for me so I can get enough to google it. Is it obvious that we watch too much TV? What I don't get is how people like Sarah (Sarie) at A Box of Chocolates already knew all of these good songs. How do you just become inherently music cool and always know the latest? And isn't it true that music is much cooler when it hasn't been over-discovered yet? So the fact that I don't catch on until it's used in mass marketing for little-known companies like Old Navy or JC Penny... well what does that say about me?

I don't know about the rest of your blogging audience, but I for one have on MANY occasions thought to myself, "where does Lillie find all this cool music?!" It all started with the anniversary jack johnson "we're better together" happiness. I was hooked and continue to be so..in fact, as we speak I had to pull open a new "tab" so I could comment and still be able to listen to your music roll.. you're hip, my friend, whether you want to admit it or not.

My brother Jon IS one of those super-music-finders that you're talking about though..and I feel like it's something he thinks about 24/7...not something I'm quite willing to do. He's a little less poppy than I wish he were sometimes (shh don't tell him, he doesn't know I'm all about the old navy ad music) but he's always got something new for my listening happiness. Exhibit A in his latest post..he told about 3 new cool albums, then sent us to their myspace pages to listen to any and all of the album that we wanted to. So let's just be thankful for those kinds of people in our circle of friends! You are one for me!

It says that at least you have good taste. And I have to admit, now that Ingrid is on Old Navy, I just can't love her quite as much as I did. Well, at least not that song.

I find my cool music from my friend Sarah. Another thing I do (and this will sound weird) is check who's touring and who the opener is. Usually, if I like the person touring, I like the opener. Like, when I saw Joshua Radin in concert (amazing, btw), Schuyler Fisk opened for him and I love her. And, when I saw Pete Yorn and Aqualung (the reason I went), A Fine Frenzy opened for them...and now, eight months later, they're on VH1.

And, while I don't love when people become uber famous and trendy, that is their goal, so I feel good for them.

Lillie, this is going to sound super random, but I love sharing music, so if you want a cd of some fun (unknown) stuff, you can email me. I promise I'm not crazy (just ask Ross). Anyway, my email is on my profile.

I've always been envious of the music finders myself. My little sister is one of them & I'm pretty sure I will never be. So, I just let her tell me about the new music she buys or finds. It seems easier that way!

WHATEVER as if you're not the coolest girl on the block. I may be a music finder but I certainly don't look as good pregnant as you. I would send you a picture of me pregnant, but I don't want to so you're going to have to trust me on that one. I spend time on music blogs, myspace music pages, concert websites and sometimes network websites like abc.com or other sites. A lot of shows like Grey's anatomy or Brothers and Sisters have a really good music producer and a lot of artists are listed there. I love your playlist, chickie, so don't sell yourself short.

A friend of mine used to spend his '45 minutes per night' to earn the music man title. He was such an innovator and nearly every song I fell for about a year and a half was his doing. I just kept being grateful that he was willing to put in the effort (Pandora's Box,etc) because I certainly wasn't. I like falling more deeply in love with an oldie sometimes (discovering old or little-heard albums, etc) rather than seeking out new blood constantly. That said, the other place I found more artists that I ended up loving than anywhere else? WB television. And amen to the 'openers'. Many great finds.

I've officially given up on being cool - music or otherwise. Lacey Cate asked me tonight at mutual what kind of music I like and I stuttered around with something like acoustic blah, blah. I felt better though after she replied that she liked country. Maybe my taste wasn't all that bad! So I found your rust/gold colored bracelet on the top of the piano tonight and swiped it. Some stylish early morning seminary kid was bound to want it soon. I didn't check to see if there were throw up remnants. You'll have to do that smell check yourself! (Sorry that was a little gross, but I couldn't bring myself to delete it). Anyways, hope you're having FUN!

Lillie- as someone who still thinks that Billy Joel and Tom Petty are the latest and greatest, I think you're doing VERY very well.

Amen to WB television. Sarah and I knew about David Gray LONG before he became popular, thanks to Felicity.

Wow Lillie!! I was convinced that you were adorable from the first time that I met you. But now, after having read some of your blog and having emotionally attached myself to your playlist,...I am overwhelmed with the notion that we are kindred spirits. (I cannot believe that I just brought myself to use that phrase. I am losing a little bit of respect for myself right now.) Can one say this about someone that they don't even know all that incredibly well. I am slurping up your blog. Your clever writing makes me have just a little less separation anxiety from Jane Austin. (seeing as how she is dead and all) Thank you so much for sharing your personality.
