Phase 2- Mommy-daughter

So after Heath went home on Wednesday, we had a little mother-daughter time before Ross rejoined us late Thursday night. We went to Coronado to check out my dad's place and get the key (that's where Ross and I would stay for the weekend.) We had dinner at La Salsa and walked around a little bit and my little girl felt the oldest she's ever felt to me. We usually put her in a highchair, but at Nana and Papa's, it was much more convenient to just sit her on a stool, and it worked! So at La Salsa, we exercised the same maturity, and she sat in the booth like my date. We had what felt like our first real mommy-daughter date and I was in Heaven. She ate well, danced to the Mexican music, talked to the passers-by, and stayed within the confines of the booth, something I thought she needed a lap strap to do. Then, without a stroller, because I tend to forget things like that, we walked around for a little bit before heading home. We bonded.

Here's a little video of her jumping on my parent's trampoline. This trip was the best yet because she really got down the jumping thing and didn't need to be held or helped. There's just something so adorable about those short, chubby legs and that little, round belly jumping like nobody’s' business.

I have to say, a week in San Diego was exactly what I needed. For the past few months, feeling yucky, everything's seemed yucky. I felt like I couldn't keep my house as clean as I wanted and the chores never ended. I'm getting fatter with pregnancy, but probably mostly just with all the eating involved in combating the nausea, so it's my own fault which is worse. And Sophia was going through the most challenging phase yet, (enjoying very much her prerogative to scream and throw fits at the most inopportune times.) All I really wanted to do was lie on the couch, but being home would bore her to a state of crazy-toddler so we've been constantly on the go, contrary to my body's wishes.

I just re-read that, and I sound like a big Debbie-downer, but my point is I feel better! Just over 14 weeks, I think I'm coming out of it, and it just so happened to start in what I find to be heaven-on-earth. So I had a week of near bliss, not racing from my bed, dry-heaving at 6:00 am to a bowl of honey-nut cheerios, and enjoying the gorgeous weather I SO took for granted growing up. Sophia had so much fun, she didn't have time to throw as many fits and I realized this might be the hardest stage so far, but not without reward. It is by far the "funnest" stage as well....

My daughter is so cool.

This was phase two of my three-part vacation.

Oh, I'm so glad you're feeling better Lillie. It really makes such a difference when you've got business to take care of with a toddler. I can relate so much to your little mommy-daughter date. I have always loved being alone with 1,2,3,or 4 of our girls at times when we can just bond and do the "girl" things. It's just the best to have fun, cool, beautiful little people with you. I'm missing Carpinteria too from you reading your post. I truly can relate to taking the weather for granted....something about the foggy, cool mornings and perfect temp days, I need a vacation!

You look so great, Lillie! I love the picture of you and Sophia on the beach. Glad you had time to bond with your little girl & I'm glad you escaped the day-to-day of "real life" for a week. Being pregnant without kids is tricky enough....let alone entertaining a toddler, too.

Glad you enjoyed your week away! It sounds perfect.

Very cute pictures and I am also glad that you are feeling better. It is so hard to be pregnant and take care of a toddler. Vacations always make real life seem more bearable!

I have to say that you and sophia look so happy and cute! The beach pic you look so much like your Mom from her college days...I was freaking out! I am glad that you are feeling better. Like my sis, I so miss the Carpinteria weather sometimes, especially in the winters here!

Lil! I've been so bad at commenting - super swamped, but READ it and have loved hearing about your vacation. More to say, but wanted to say hi, love you, and thanks for the beautiful pics, adorable video and updates.

can I start planning a vacation there with you someday? maybe post babies #2, when the weather is perfectest?

And who did you get to take your picture? so glad you did, what a great memory that will be for a long time to come.

I have to again defend my little one and tell your friends who are expecting that mommy/son dates are just as fun when you love your little one. but I'm glad you and sophia had such a nice time. something about just being able to enjoy her..not being rushed or feeling like you have somewhere to be. just being together. fabulous.

great post, as always! :)

Michelle- I should clarify- I cheated with the mommy-daughter picture for effect. Wasn't actually taken that day. Taken in phase 4 (I know I said there were only 3) when Ross and I took her to the beach after our romantic weekend.

I LOVED that video Lillie! Oh my goodness, she is adorable. I love her little gasp after not knowing where her water is. Don't you wonder how they decide to think of random things? Like, you were have a conversation with her when she decided she needed her water. I love it! I wish we could have met up together. Sounds like you had a great weekend and I am SO SO glad you are feeling better! Nausea is the worst.

I love "dates" with the little one. It just makes everything so special, right?

Way way way way cute! She is just getting to be so big! And what an awesome wardrobe! I have a question though....Ben and I use google video for our clips but I can't seem to put em in without having the "http" junk at the top of the clip...how can I fix that? (I tried to tell everyone I would be a blogging idiot but no one believed me!)

That video is adorable! I echo Missy's comment on her cute little gasp - my favorite part. Oh the water! I love how their little lives revolve around their immediate surroundings...
So glad you had time in such beautiful weather and a perfect setting with your little one. Mommy daughter bonding is the best.
