"What do you do all day anyway?"

I went to the doctor yesterday for some x-rays. After finding out that I was the mommy of two, he said, amongst other things, that he would attribute my back pain to "sitting around all day... watching kids... nursing... probably not really getting proper exercise... "

Wow.

"Sitting around all day?" I ask nicely.... with a pair of confused eyes.... as my daydreams take me to a place where I bust through my t-shirt (that apparently makes me look incredibly unfit) like the hulk and go bananas in this ugly, white-walled doctor's office. How rude. Ross says he's a quack. A quack with no kids. Or a quack with kids whose wife has most definitely left him. Then he assures me that I have a "beautiful body, even though it's crooked with scoliosis." He really loves me.

And sitting around all day? Please.

We stay incredibly busy with things like dancing on the bed with Mila's baby-legs on our arms while Mom uses Mila's fist as a mic to sing "What a Feeling!"

We snuggle.... and take lots of pictures (when did I get too old to take a picture without makeup on? Or maybe we're just always too old to be cheek to cheek with the perfect angel-face of a two year old. Or maybe SLR's were never meant to be used on one's own face at arm's length.)

We paint our toe-nails.
We play with toys. Or stare at them.... unsure what it is we're to do with them.
We eat cheerios off of the bed with no hands. (Well not usually, but as I was having too much fun with the camera... I failed to notice her dancing with an open baggie of them flying about my clean sheets like confetti.) What a feeling.

And really... I mean, it takes time to look this good. What-- he thinks we just sit around all day and get this gorgeous without trying? What a quack.

Wow. Gorgeous pictures. Especially love that blue wall in the pics! How did you not tell me this story? Apparantly I am too self absorbed to ask how the doctor appt. went. Guess I was more interested in what you found at Pottery Barn! :) You are a beautiful (incredibly active and fit) mom. With of course beautiful girls.

My favorite post. From the baby legs to the singing to the last shot of Sophia (looking at the camera! It gives me hope that Aver someday will...).

Love that blue wall? Did I tell you that I'm keeping the pink. You lover of all things color-girl inspired me.

PS: I'm so rude to not even say that I hope your back feels ok. You just sort of slyly put that in at the beginning making the rest of your day look so fun.

I had a similar x ray on my back even before I had kids and they basically told me I was just imagining it...

I do have to say that the "butt in the air" pic is one of my fav's! Don't listen to the crazy doc.....listen to Ross. You look great and I don't lie. :)

Oh my gosh, Lillie! You have such better control than me. I would have totally told him off. What a load! Our society needs to wake up and respect it's mothers like it use to. Pft! Now I am in a mood. Off to rant to Robbie.

Gorgeous pictures as always! :)

The lens! and the photos! and the perspectives! I love it all. Having a sore back is the WORST. All I know is you don't get one from sitting around all day! It's the back breaking work of taking care of two babies and a house. We literally just don't stop moving. I know how it is. What an IDIOT doctor. And seriously, your girls. They're so beautiful. You and R must just google over them all evening, especially that baby Mila. yuummmmy. p.s. that cheerios in a baggie mess is the story of my life. When did I ever think it was ok to let them carry food in ziplock bags throughout the house and car? I should have never started that one...

How rude of that doctor!!! If he only knew how much we do as mothers. He couldn't last an hour. I'm actually dreading my doctor's appointment tomorrow because last month my doctor told me I was gaining too much weight! She told me I can only gain 2 pounds a month and I've gained another 6 this month so she's going to say something.

Lillie - I just love your posts - especially your pictures. I can tell you from experience that your back probably hurts from nursing... you know - looking down at Mila while she feeds and wishing you could hang on to that moment forever. Especially with Sophia running around, you probably wonder where all the time went and how did she get so big. Enjoy it and yes, that doctor is a quack!

In the words of Stephaine Tanner,(please tell me I'm not the only looser who watched Full House) HOW RUDE! That doctor needs to take a day out of Doctoring and spend a day as a mom. I don't know any mom that "sits around all day".

Totally agree. He's a quack. Although I'm very curious to see what you find out from your back because mine has been KILLING me for years and years but no one can figure mine out. Hope yours feels better soon.

LOVE the photos and your story telling. You seriously are a great writer. You should think about writing a book. :)
