Just an Update

Bath Time- kitchen sink for Mila-- with shaving cream for Sophia. She needed a morning bath due to a certain explosion- so Ross got ready for work in her bathroom and of course she had to do what Daddy did.

To start: A bunch of pictures

So we're alive. Like really alive. Like I've gone out in the car twice and taken at least a few showers. :) Feelin' good.

I really thought I'd still have plenty of blogging time, and that I'd be desperate to do so seeing as I have a new little model to photograph. But I have to say-- my obsession with getting a digital SLR camera has made taking pictures with my normal camera much less exciting. And my morning blog time is spent making my toddler feel loved. Yes I'm somewhat concerned still with the transition. She's super sweet to the baby...a little too sweet considering she loves to give kisses and has the remnants of a cold. But me? Well she's in a phase where she likes to beat me up. She intentionally scratches or hits me (WHAT?!) and just smiles and nods when I ask her if she wants a time out. She does it when she's perfectly happy and sitting on my lap-- not just when she's throwing a fit. Sigh. Lots more to say and advice to ask for... but don't really feel like writing more on that.

Besides that... we're great! My sister, Melisa was going to come help me on Monday and Tuesday but her little Heath had too gnarly of a cold- we figured it was best not to bring him around the baby. I was nervous to be on my own since I was still feeling the c-section and 'they say' not to lift your toddler for six weeks (right.) We got through Monday fine and Ross came home early so I could get to my post-surgery Dr. appointment. I did my hair and put on some eyeliner for the first time in a WEEK, left both girls at home with Ross, got my bandages removed and then went to Trader Joe's-- all in all, felt HUMAN (minus the left over swelling and several unmentionables.) It was nice. Tuesday we actually all loaded up in the car and went to a friend's house so Sophia could play with her girls. Since Kodi reads this sometimes, I should confess that the drive is all of 3 miles or so... and all I did was sit and hold Mila while Kodi waited on me hand and foot. Thanks Kodi. But still... we left the house- all three of us! And yes I expect lots and lots of comments on what a trooper I am. Kidding really. But again- good to feel human.

Ross' mom got here late Tuesday night and has been so great. I was able to take Mila to her first Dr.'s appointment (she's now 8 lb 8 oz... and healthy as can be) and take care of a couple of other errands while she watched Sophia and gave her a whole bunch of attention (seems to be important these days.) Again. Felt human.

Besides that-- all I really do is paint on color-wonder paper, build towers out of blocks, and cuddle with Sophia as much as I can when Mila's sleeping... and when she's not? Take in as much of my precious newborn as I POSSIBLY can- kiss her softer than soft face, smell her sweet little head, and stare at her perfect little turtle expressions and her perfectly arched bundle of a body when she stretches (I LOVE that.) In those moments-- feel better than human.

Oh the joys of c-sections. I have one scheduled on Dec. 13th. I hope I can survive until then. Both babies weigh well over 5 lbs now and I'm feeling EVERY ounce.

Mila is too cute. Have a great week.

Glad to hear you're feeling human....it's very important after a baby! :) Lillie, you look AMAZING!!! Really, it's a wonder how any woman can grow a baby for 9 months and not gain one pound!!! You are gorgeous!!

Oh Laci-- there's a reason I cropped that last picture to exlude my very "fluffy" arm.

Lillie- you do look great! I have to tell you regarding the hitting- Mason had the same problem for the first 2 weeks... Especially happened when I was feeding the baby! I think it just takes them a while to figure out what is happening! I wish we lived closer to come visit you guys! Maybe one of these days Ryan may even call!

Good luck

What beautiful beauties- all 3 of ya! Love the shaving cream and Sophia, precious. So sorry about the Sophia fits. I'm sure that it's just a phase. Enjoy your moments with your sweet girls. I wish I could hold that darling Mila!

Forgot to let you know- you look FABULOUS! I think you're super skinny (way more than me and I had my baby a year ago). Dang it. :)

What a great narration of the first week and a half. You take me back. I think you are doing great and looking great. Every new mom should blog every day so we can all share in seeing those newborn to baby transitions. I have been loving looking at all the pictures. As for Sophia . . .wait until she wants to try out the breast milk. That was the weirdest. Two gulps and they don't want it anymore, but it is kind of freaky. When they both want you: put the newborn in the swing and give it to Sophia-it cuts her deeper than the newborn to not have her mom. The second baby is the real test of finding time for yourself because one of them always seems to need you. Finding the balance is the key to happiness--but have patience. It may take some time to get into the right groove. So far, I think you are doing great.

You are a TROOPER! Seriously Lil, I don't think I left the house for a week after my apendix was taken out. I can't imagine giving birth and running around with 2 kids days later. You're a wonder woman. I want to hold your little cuddle bug SO badly. Both Mila and Sophia are beautiful. Miss you!

i can't believe how fast you recovered. you are totally skinny and cute again. not that you weren't before, but you have no remnants of a pregnant woman in you. mila is so stinking cute. she makes me so baby hungry. you are such a good mom to spend extra special time with sophia. i am sure she loves the attention.

So about the compliments? Making my day, really... but you do realize that all I allow in the picture is my face right? I can't handle the pressure - that some of you might really think that I don't still look 8 months pregnant. What if you were to see me outside of cyberworld and think I was a fraud?! Just know that until you see a full body shot (which probably won't happen until I have another pregnant belly to boast) I do INDEED have the remnants of a pregnancy...all over the place. Just one of the joys right?

You have two of the CUTEST girls I've ever seen. I'm amazed at how well you are juggling both of them.

Feeling human is a WONDERFUL thing after you have a baby. It took me a long time to feel like a normal person again so once again, I am impressed. And, to echo what everyone else has said, you do look amazing. I'm totally jealous!

What beautiful pictures. For the record, I have seen ALL of you and I think you look great! Of course there's remnants of the pregnant belly, it doesn't just disappear. . however you DO look amazing - happy, rested and glowing!

I'm SURE the hitting is a phase and something she'll get past soon enough (though that is probably easier said for me who doesn't have a 2 year old and a 2 week newborn).

Even still, you DO look great and I'm SO impressed that you've been out and about already. I think (know) it took me a lot longer to even attempt going out with Avery alone for fear that she would get hungry and I'd be in the middle of Trader Joe's checkout line and become flustered. Basically, I don't think I'll come to you when I have #2 and don't leave my house for a month...

Love the updates though Lillie. I'm really hoping you get the SLR for tons of pictures.

Lil- thanks for posting so frequently- I love that I am able to see her little changes even if I can't see them in person. Recently I came upon many different opinions regarding the hitting issue. A friend of mine was having problems with her son hitting (not after a new baby so it may be a little different) and she posted a question on our google group. She got 4 or 5 responses from different women. The whole range of the spectrum was represented from time outs to pure silliness to distraction. She tried a little bit of everything and has had great success. Something that stuck out to me was that if she is not upset when she does it she might be just trying to communicate and not realize or remember that it hurts mommy. If she is upset when she does it try not to get upset with her- as then there are two upset people instead of one. My friend started being very silly like threatening to eat her sons hands and things like that and it turned a tense moment into a silly one. Be patient. You are such a great mother, Lillie. I watch you with Sophia and learn so much about being a better mother- from attention to diet and sleeping schedule to the way you look and play with her and how patient and loving you are during a tantrum. I have no doubt that your instincts are right on when it comes to parenting.

Everytime I check your blog lately I get startled by the music.
I like the Bubbly song but always get annoyed when she says "Can you count me in?" or whatever it is. What does that mean? It always makes me think, "Can you deal me in?" like she's playing poker.

Great pics. Haven't done the shaving cream thing with Joseph yet.

I posted about Lettuce at http://inrareform.wordpress.com

You might like it.

Lillie, you make it look so easy! And to add to everyone else's comments, you DO look fabulous! Even if you don't feel it, you look it. LOVE the picture of Sophia in the bath! We're going to be dealing w/ the same thing coming up here quickly, so it's good to hear you talk about it. It's the age, too, where Sophia is just trying to get your attention. It sounds like you're juggling both very well, and I'm just trying to gear up for it all! It sounds so exhausting trying to give as much attention as possible to a 2 yr. old, plus a newborn, and I think you are doing an amazing job. You are so patient and calm, and I love seeing you as a mother! Lillie & this baby will be 3 yrs. apart, so we'll probably be dealing w/ the same thing. I love that I can hear about "what to expect" w/ a toddler & a baby. Mila is so beautiful, and I bet it's so wonderful having a baby in the home again! There's just nothing like it, is there?! Love you, Lill! I think about you often!

Lillie- I have been meaning to send a congrats your way. You and Ross have such beautiful girls. In regards to Sophia's hitting issue she is testing her boundaries and feeling cheated of time with you. It was just you and her before and now Mila has been thrown into the mix. Just be sure you are balancing that time with her---I know it is easier said than done, but it works. My Nicole loved her sister Michelle when she came, but was very angry with me. She doesn't deal well with change, but when I make sure I am spending quality time with her the jealousy leaves. They each need their individual time with you. And just to let you know...the 3rd time around is a charm...no jealousy.(at least that is how it worked out in our house) the girls can't get enough of Tison.....neither can WE. Aren't kids the best. I am sure that you are just as awesome a Mom as Lacy is. I admire her sweetness and the way she mothers Joey and Millie. All in all you will know what is best for your girls. Hope to see you next year in Florida since we missed your visit this past year. I have never seen Sophia in person, but love seeing the pics.

What a great HAPPY family with two girls---
Life is good, isn't it? Lillie, you look ridiculously good and vibrant, etc. for having a baby. Mila is gorgeous and reminds me of my own babies. They are all born with spikey black hair. So so cute! Can't wait for my baby to come in... July? That seems so far away!! Good luck and no matter where I live, I will still have the same blog. Sometimes it's our only home!! :)
