80 Degrees and Happy as Clams

So did you see (or should I say hear) my newest addition? Yup- I stole the idea and how-to (form a playlist) from Sarah Smylie, Rebecca's ...sister-in-law? I would snoop at her blog occasionally and couldnt' leave once I got there because she had so much great music playing in the background. So hopefully mine will work. If you get the red error message in the playlist, you might just need to hit refresh. Let me know if it works for you. Thankyou Sarah!

The pictures: they look like nothing special, but on Sunday we had to go to Yucaipa, which is about an hour--and 35 degrees-- away, to drop off my dad's jeep and trailer that we had brought the sectional in. Sophia's in jammies and church shoes, and all we had was Ross' blackberry to snap a couple of pictures, but I just had to document the happiness that comes from an hour in 80 degree weather as opposed to the 118 degree evening we'd left behind. To be able to sit outside as a family right now... *sigh*. We just hung out on a grassy hill at the church there, with a true warm, summer night's breeze on our faces, and Ross taught Sophia how to roll down the hill and squeal "weeee". The grass was thick and cushy and there were trees! Trees that create real shade!

I really do love aspects of the desert. But the summer is not one of them. And Yucaipa is not the cure or anything, there are some pretty funky neighborhoods with some extremely tattoo'd motorcyclists riding throughout, (although they were very nice and waved to Sophia.) But I have so much envy for those who live in "real" places, with shade, and sidewalks and grass that grows in unmanicured corners and doesn't need to be replanted twice a year. Even those with neighbors that keep their kiddie pools and trampolines in the front yard.

I LOVE the music! (I'm saying "love" alot today in my comments) Good job. It totally works at my house. I just may have to continue copying you! :)

I like the music addition. I'll have to call you when I get ambitious with mine to figure out how to do it!

I am totally with you when it comes to the desert. Whenever I leave here and go somewhere pretty, part of me wishes I lived somewhere with grass and trees and cooler temperatures. But then seasons change and the rest of the year here is pretty nice. I guess everywhere has its pros and cons...it's just hard to see as you feel your skin bake in 120 degree weather. Glad you got to escape it...even if for a short while.

I'm a copycat once again. Sorry. I stole your idea for music. Love your post. Makes me even more sad to move to AZ and not have the nice coolness of Colorado (even though it's been 100 here all week).

You have no idea how often I want to copy Sarah Smylie. She's a good one. I wish I had a yard, let alone a front yard, to say nothing of a kiddie pool. Our fire escape, though lovely, doesn't do it for me the way I hoped it might. And how about the ghetto blasting music at all hours. You have 120 degree weather, we have 120 decibal accompaniment. Yeah, like Lindsay said, everywhere has its pros and cons. I'm just wondering why we aren't all searching for places where the cons are things like, "sometimes, there is a fly in my house," or whatever.

Argh! Why can't I make the music work? I too have secretly lurked on Sarah S.'s site, and kept it there all day as my jukebox. I LOVED her playlist too (it was like one of each of my favorites), and knowing your taste in music Lil, I will looove yours when I can make it WORK (I think my computer's security settings are too high or something). Anyway, if you have any tips, let me know.

SO happy you got to escape to a balmy land of lower temperatures and 'normal' folk. And isn't it funny, Rebecca, that we choose to live places that aren't 'fly in the house' kind of con-worthy? I'd rather live in my overpriced neighborhood, in a 6-girls-full house, blocks away from Freddie's Gay Restaurant than almost anywhere because the neighborhood is beautiful and Mormon-full, the house has plenty of room for us to strew our things, and there's a great Gelato place a few doors down from Freddie's.

Tramp in the front yard though, that's what I'm aspiring to.

Cool background. I you can probably play with the width some to get it just right.

Also, Lacy posted!

Wow! I stay away for a few days and everything has been completely rehauled. I like the new heading and music. And p.s. in that picture with Sophia on the couch you look absolutely beautiful. You can just tell what a special moment that was. Hope you have fun in Florida. Maybe by the time you get back we will have a new little addition to the family!

Okay...so I found your blog through Denae Harlow's...anyway, I grew up with Ross (he and my little brother were friends) and it's so fun to see how he's grown up and his cute, cute family (you and your daughter are both darling!).
