Did I mention we went skiing?

So I've been feeling pretty UNphysical since the c-section. (And by a little unphysical I mean I've done nothing that resembles exercise since a week or so before Mila was born.) So when Ross proposed that I come skiing with him, I thought it was sweet, but a little intimidating. Figured he'd just laugh at me the whole time anyway-- it must just be a gesture. I thought a little hesitance would be enough to deter him, since maybe he was just asking to be polite anyway. He'd ask me, I'd say "no because I have to feed Mila", he'd say "oh yeah, bummer, I'll miss you" and that way I couldn't resent him for leaving me. :) (Not that I'm that wife or anything.... or at least not since I set my 2008 resolutions....)

But it didn't work out that way. He was pretty convinced that it actually would be more fun with me there (sweet huh?) So after making all the arrangements with his parents to make sure the timing would work out with Sophia's nap and Mila's eating schedule, he convinced me to go.

What he also convinced me to do was go to the TOP of the mountain (blue square or something... whatever's a little harder than what I should be doing... seeing as I've ski'id like twice, both times as a pre-teen I think.) He (and Taylor- thanks Taylor) were certain that it wasn't actually any harder, but that we'd avoid the long lift line this way. Well, we made it to the top (barely, as I was sure at points that I would die of FROZEN EAR syndrome on the longest and coldest lift-ride of my life.) But since we only had two hours of twilight skiing between baby feedings, and I had to inch my way down the mountain at what had to be a record slow pace, taking breaks in between to rest my grossly out of shape quads, we only got one ride down. Sorry Ross. But your theory that it wasn't actually going to be any harder was horribly wrong. Luckily there was a good 15 minutes or so when it wasn't so steep, and I must say it was SUPER fun, and I get it, how people can get so addicted to a sport. I craved it the next day.

So I thought about just posting the picture and leaving some of you to think that perhaps I'm one of those cool wives, the kind that can keep up with her husband on the slopes, one that doesn't complain that her toes are most certainly going to fall off and that she might throw up from the pain, the kind that doesn't fall and wait for her husband to hike back up the mountain to put her rejected ski back on, or beg him, like a small child, to hold her hand on the scary lift-dismount. The kind that doesn't make her husband stuff her pony tail inside her jacket to get the neck warmer thing up over her ears, and then scream in pain as he pulls her baby hairs. I thought about it, just posting the picture, but decided to come clean. I'm totally that wife, and am just coming to terms with it.

And this is the post that I love most Lillie. You are make me laugh. Despite everything you listed off, you two sure look cute in your ski gear.

This is quite possibly the best post ever. I love it. I mean, you got the freaking picture, that's all that matters at this point. I went snowboarding with my brother last year and actually ran into a sign. Plowed right over it. And when I got up to right the sign, I fell over again.

Seriously, enlarge the picture, put it on the wall and be glad you've got the memory! :) Most people laugh histerically at the thought of me trying to ski. I just try to get through life without breaking/spraining/injuring anything! :) Love your blog! You're so entertaining!

So you went to Sundance? I miss that twilight skiing. It used to be only $12 for two hours. so convenient to Provo.
I broke my thumb twilight skiing. It was a rookie mistake.

Two things strike me about this post Lillie. First, you haven't exercised since a week before Mila was born? I gave up exercise in the second trimester. Oops. Also, I think when you sat down to write this post you had to chose between letting people know what kind of a skiing wife you are, and what kind of a skiing husband Ross is. And I think it was selfless of you to give the credit to Ross on this one. What a good man you married. And yeah, great picture.

Dang, that was me, Rebecca, not Levi.

1) what a fantastic photo!
2) where skiing is concerned - i can relate to the good, bad and ugly. to grow up in utah with crazy ski bum friends only to pine my way down the slopes... sigh.
3) how flattering that ross would want you there, no matter what.
4) girls weekend in SD - are you in?

lillie, because of you and this FABULOUSLY honest post, I JUST MIGHT go skiing again. I'm at stroller class today and we're supposed to say one thing no one knows about us....this beautiful, hatefully skinny chick , when it comes to her says, "um, I don't know? I snowboard with my husband?" ooo I could have punched her. :)

thank you thank you thank you for being like the rest of us, and for exposing skiing for what it is: cold, scary, cold, frustrating, cold, quad killing, oh and did I mention cold? :)

that said, know that you are super super buff for going with ross down from BLUE and I never could have done it. Brandon also claims that "going with me" is "enough" and he "doesn't even need to go down harder ones" (because i REFUSE to do anything harder than green, which is like a half step up from the bunny hill). yeah right. dang these nice husbands of ours!

love you love you love you! :)

oh yeah, and ps-- ask me sometime about trent, me, and my ONE trip down the mountain on a snowboard. wimp!

The fact that you went with him is admirable to me! I've only been snowboarding once...and I'm not sure I'll ever do it again. I'm OK with being the wife that's all dressed up in her winter gear inside with all the kiddos drinking hot chocolate. I remind my family regularly that while I may not be any fun on the slopes, I'm sure a great babysitter while they ski!

Classic description of life down the mountain w/ the wifey...but, just so you know I haven't heard Ross complain about it once. How nice.

by far one of my favorite posts. it made me miss being your roommate and listening to all of your entertaining stories. i was laughing so hard mostly b/c it is exactly what happened to me when i went with zac over christmas. i don't get why they always want us to go with them all the time. how could it be more fun having a whiney, baby tagging along the whole time? i know i am annoying on the slopes b/c i even annoy myself. you know how much i love the cold.

lillie, what a great post! i finally have something in common with you - the husband who thinks i can do anything and then when i can't, tells me i did a great job. can you believe he even proposed at the top of a ski slope?
anyway, your post made me think of a dave barry article i read recently (if you're not that type, it's okay). here's the link if you're interested:
